Necklaces with natural stones

We offer necklaces with natural stones: beaded necklaces made of sapphires, garnets, tourmalines, spinels, topazes, pearls, opals and dozens of other stones. Most have a clasp made of 925/1000 silver, some of gold. For every necklace we state its length, the size of the beads and how they are strung.

How to choose a necklace

Length

Most of our necklaces measure 40 to 50 cm, some are longer, up to around 80 cm. The safest way is to measure a necklace you like to wear and compare its length with the figure given for the product. If you need a different length than the one of a necklace you like, let us know! We will make you a made-to-measure necklace in the length you need.

Bead size

We state the size of the beads in millimetres. Small beads up to 4 mm look delicate and go well with other jewellery. Beads of around 8 mm and larger are more striking, and the necklace becomes the main piece of jewellery. Some necklaces have graduated beads, from smaller ones at the clasp to larger ones at the front.

Faceted or smooth beads

Faceted beads are cut into facets and sparkle. Stones can be faceted into various shapes: the most common are faceted rounds and flattened rondelles, whose shape resembles a lens. You will also find stones cut into other, more elaborate shapes, as well as large stones with a simple cut of only a few facets, which brings out the texture and colour transitions of large stones in particular. Smooth beads show the colour and pattern of the stone more. Our range includes smooth rounds, oval beads and tubes. Most of our necklaces are made of faceted beads.

What the beads are strung on

We string our necklaces mainly on beading wire, silk thread or nylon line; we state the material for every product. Some necklaces, especially pearl ones, are knotted between the individual beads. The knots have a practical purpose: if the necklace breaks, only one bead comes loose. They also prevent delicate pearls and other stones from knocking against each other and getting damaged. Silk thread darkens and stretches over time, so a necklace strung on silk should be restrung after about two years (we also offer this service). Likewise, beading wire will eventually show signs of corrosion and lose strength, as will even the best nylon or elastic. In short, any piece of jewellery worn regularly needs restringing after about two years.

Necklace care

Put your necklace on only after applying perfume, hairspray and cosmetics, and wipe it with a soft cloth after wearing. This applies doubly to pearls. A pearl has a hardness of only 2.5 on the Mohs scale and is damaged by chemicals, acids and sweat. Do not use ultrasonic or steam cleaners on pearls. If you wash a pearl necklace in warm soapy water, let the string dry completely before wearing it. Store necklaces separately so that beads made of harder stones do not rub against softer ones.
